Police have SetUp a auto and a gun belonging to the man suspected of firing and injuring five people along Interstate 75 in Southern Kentucky Saturday night, but they're still searching for the suspect.
Laurel County Sheriff Gilbert Acciardo said Sunday that police set up a vehicle belonging to 32- time-old Joseph settee near the interstate on Saturday night, establishing settee as a person of interest in the blowups. The auto was situated atop a hill on a U.S. Forest Service Road past interstate Exit 41, near the firing.
On a separate stretch of the trace, Acciardo said, police on Sunday set up an AR- 15 they believe was used in the blowups. He said authorities do n’t know why the suspect seems to have dumped the gun.
Acciardo said investigators suppose settee is still in the forestland of north Laurel County. Acciardo described the hunt as “ slow- going ” because of the rugged terrain, but he said chancing the gun was a positive development.
settee is suspected of opening fire on drivers in both directions of I- 75 around 530 p.m. Saturday.
Police said settee should be considered fortified and dangerous, and they encouraged people to call 911 if they see him.
Acciardo said they’ve been “ bombarded ” with tips about settee, but he noted that’s a good thing.
nearly 20 long hauls of the interstate, between Mt. Vernon and London, were shut down for about three hours Saturday night as police searched for settee. Side roads were shut down too.
The interstate has remained open on Sunday, but some side roads and exit ramps remain unrestricted.
Four of the firing victims were traveling on I- 75 from out of the state. The other, 28- time-old Harlan County occupant Rebecca Puryear, told the Herald- Leader she was driving with her hubby and youthful son when she was shot in the casket.
Puryear said he thought the shot came from a hill near the interstate.
